Frequently Asked Questions

Commonly Asked Questions to Prepare for Your Visit

Our office’s main goal is to help patients avoid knee replacement surgery through innovative, non-surgical methods, some of which are covered under insurance and Medicare. That said it is still important to know that knee replacement surgeries can often be costly and painful procedures with long recovery times, and can cost upwards of $50,000 per knee to have performed, and even upwards to $70,000 per knee if there are complications.

No, absolutely not. All treatment solutions offered at Joint Regeneration are fully non-surgical and do not involve the use of opioids.

There is no downtime required. Injections are minimally invasive and feel similar to a blood draw. You can resume work and regular activities the same day that you receive treatment. You should avoid heavy activities for a 24-hour period.
We give you an overview of our patented protocol program that has over a 92% success rate, how and why we do things to achieve success, a question-and-answer session and we make sure you are a candidate for our non- surgical treatment protocol program. Our goal at Joint Regeneration is to educate and inform those suffering from osteoarthritis of the knee(s) that there is a simple, FDA Approved, non-surgical, proven alternative solution to invasive operations, drugs, and drastic lifestyle changes, to help reduce or possibly eliminate osteoarthritis pain of the knee.
You and the provider will thoroughly review your medical history. X-rays may be taken and the best treatment plan for your condition will be determined.

We realize how important your time is. We work hard to ensure that we are organized, and all our systems are followed. Sometimes there are just some setbacks that we do not have control over, but overall, the total time for the HA injections for the knee, which includes check in, updated information and vitals check, arthrogram and the HA injection is about 30 minutes. Most patients can be in and out during the time it takes for a lunch break and actually, the injection itself takes less than a minute.

We are one of several hundred clinics throughout the country that are approved and certified to implement the patented Advanced Arthritis Relief Protocol™ (AARP) Program. This patented protocol has achieved, evidenced through results of clinical trials, over a 92% success rate of decreasing pain of osteoarthritis of the knee by 50% or greater. This program is a combination of medical work up/ x ray evaluation, image guided injections, special unloading knee brace, and physical therapy. All of this is done through outpatient procedures with no down time, no surgery and no drugs and is covered by Medicare and other commercial insurance companies.

Hyaluronic (pronounced hi-ah-lew-ron-ic) acid, or HA— also known as hyaluronan or hyaluronate — is a gooey, slippery substance that your body produces naturally. Scientists have found hyaluronic acid throughout the body, especially in eyes, joints and skin. Hyaluronic acid is a remarkable substance because of all the benefits and uses it has in your body. Here are just a few of the benefits of hyaluronic acid:

  • It helps things move smoothly. Hyaluronic acid helps your joints work like a well-oiled machine. It prevents pain and injury from bones grinding against each other.
  • It helps keep things hydrated. Hyaluronic acid is very good at retaining water. A quarter teaspoon of hyaluronic acid holds about one and a half gallons of water. That’s why hyaluronic acid is often used for treating dry eyes. It’s also used in moisturizing creams, lotions, ointments, and serums.
  • It makes your skin flexible. Hyaluronic acid helps skin stretch and flex and reduces skin wrinkles and lines. Hyaluronic acid is also proven to help wounds heal faster and can reduce scarring.
As we age the production of HA is not as proficient, so at Joint Regeneration, we inject FDA approved HA to help lubricate and cushion the knee joint to help reduce the pain associated with osteoarthritis of the knee.

That depends upon your insurance carrier. Our highly successful protocol which has produced success rates of over 92%, calls for 5 HA injections which Medicare and other commercial insurance companies will approve. On the other hand, some insurance companies will approve less than 5 HA injections. In that case we can discuss your options.

Are there any adverse reactions?

  1. As with any injection, there may be slight swelling, bleeding, or bruising at the site.
  2. Hyaluronic Acid is so safe that it is used as a placebo in diabetic patients.

There are many variables that play into this question; The severity of your osteoarthritis, your age, your general health, your flexibility, your body’s ability to produce HA, etc. Generally, relief lasts from 6 months up to 2 years or more following treatment, again, depending upon the severity of your condition and other variables. If necessary, this procedure can be performed again 6 months later for added benefit and longer lasting effects. Medicare and most commercial insurance companies allow this procedure to be performed every 6 months. Hyaluronic Acid, being natural, has shown in theory to also teach your body to generate more synovial fluid. After the procedure is complete, you may experience further decreased pain and increased range of motion.

Yes. Medicare and most commercial insurances do cover this treatment and provide coverage for repeat treatments every 6 months if necessary.

Yes. If you’ve had your knee(s) only partially replaced, this can still work. If you’ve had a full knee replacement, this will not work for you.

Yes. If you have osteoarthritis of the knee, this can work for you. If our X-rays determine that there is no osteoarthritis, one of our other regenerative treatments would be a better fit. We offer treatments specific to repairing meniscus tears as well. Each patient is different and the best options for you will be discussed during your consultation.

If you recognize the value of this highly successful AARP program and are ready to move forward, just call us at 440-471-4323 to set up an informative and educational complimentary, no obligation, initial consultation. It’s that easy!
